US asset management services provider MRO Software has won a $2.6 million deal with Yarra Trams to supply its asset management solution. Scheduled to go live in November 2006, the solution is expected to significantly reduce reactive maintenance, therefore exceeding reliability and service level agreements as part of Yarra Tram’s goal to attract an additional 22 million passenger trips across the tram network in Melbourne over the next five years.

Yarra Trams operates Melbourne's entire tram network and consists of eight depots, 31 major routes, 1800 staff and a fleet of 474 trams.

Included in the asset management solution is a suite of mobile applications for PDAs, laptops, tablets, and mobile phones allowing Yarra Trams to extend its applications to remote and mobile workers.

“With a fleet of almost 500 trams traveling more than 22.5 million kilometres each year, the maintenance of our rolling stock is core to Yarra Trams,” said Yarra Trams Chief Executive Officer Dennis Cliche. “Up until now, we’ve been relying on various disparate and largely paper-based systems inherited from several mergers and restructures."

“We’re very pleased to be working with Yarra Trams to further improve the reliability and safety of the Melbourne tram network,” said Adrian Hocking, country manager, MRO Software Pty Limited. “Our adaptable module-based Workflow system ensures consistency across the company’s maintenance and servicing activities and will significantly decrease asset down time.”
