The Internet Security acquisition announcement brings the total acquisitions announced by cash rich IBM in August to US$3.64 billion. Aside from the Internet Security buyout, IBM announced an even bigger US$1.6 billion acquisition of enterprise content management solutions provider Filenet Corp. Prior to that, IBM announced a US$740 million acquisition of asset management software provider MRO Software. A problem for IBM is that the hardware juggernaut needs to drive growth from faster growing sectors than the mature hardware market. Thus, the acquisition drive.
