IT services provider Computer Sciences Corporation has extended its IT services contract with ASX listed steel manufacturer OneSteel Ltd in a deal worth US$37 million (A$50 million).

The contract will run over three years, with options for another two years.

CSC has provided IT ervices for OneSteel since 2001, when it was established as a separate entity from the then Broken Hill Propriety (BHP), now BHP Billiton, following the merger of BHP and Billiton. OneSteel Ltd is now the largest manufacturer of steel long products and is the leading metals distribution company in Australia.

Under the new contract, CSC will continue to provide a wide range of IT-related services, including support and enhancement of a significant portion of OneSteel’s critical production systems, which operate across manufacturing facilities in Newcastle, Sydney, and in Whyalla, South Australia.

“Our relationship with OneSteel continues to grow, and this extension is a vote of confidence in the quality of services and results CSC has been providing,” said Mike Shove, managing director of CSC’s Australian operations. “It is also an acknowledgement of the depth of steel industry expertise CSC has gained serving a diversified resources client base.”

“With our IT services contract coming up for renewal, OneSteel embarked on a detailed evaluation of possible outsourcing providers, and we are pleased to say that CSC presented the best overall option for those services being renewed,” said Michael Dines, OneSteel general manager of eCommerce and Information Technology.
