Google continues to surge ahead in the search space, more than doubling its second quarter earnings, recording record market share and announcing a new search tool for the visually impaired.
On the earnings front, Google posted US$721 million net earnings, up
from $343 million for the same quarter in 2005, while revenues of
US$2.46 billion were up a remarkable 77%.
To add to its good fortune, Google was found to increase its global
internet search market share to 62%, up from 55%, according to web
analytics firm ComScore Networks. In contrast, Yahoo' search share fell from 22% to 20%, while Microsoft
slipped from 10% to 9%, according to ComScore.
As the icing on the cake in a satisfying day, Google announced a new
version of its search engine for visually impaired. The product, called
Accessible Serach, aims to enable people with bad eyesight to get to
easily readable sites quickly without having to wade through a lot of
hard to read sites. {moscomment}.
