According to a new poll, users appear to be divided on whether Microsoft is justified in dropping support for Windows 98 which, together with Windows ME, is still used by more than 70 million users around the world. Microsoft announced at the beginning of the month that Windows 98 and Millenium Edition users will no longer be supported by Microsoft from July 11, leaving an estimated 70 million users exposed to hackers. An iTWire poll asked the question: "Should Microsoft continue to support Windows 98?" However, far from reponding with an unequivocal "yes", users were fairly evenly divided, with 53.9% of respondents answering yes and 46.1% answering no. Some users have emailed iTWire saying that they are forced to stay with Windows 98 because of the financial considerations of upgrading hardware and software. {moscomment} |
