It appears that we're not having a good week with vendors. Novell has expressed mild annoyance at our article alleging that the company is late with the release its latest whizz bang desktop product, Suse Linux Enterprise Desktop (SLED) 10. In fact, the product is dead on time, according to Novell. Company spokesman, Kevan Barney emailed us to say, "SLED was never announced to be ready in June. You can look for the final to be available in July. The pre-release is simply what the name would suggest -- a non-final version (although close) that we're making available for folks to put through its paces before the final is available. So they're that much closer to being ready for production deployment when the final code arrives." Sorry Novell, we must have got it wrong but we were under the impression that the end of June was the correct time frame. Anyway what's a few weeks in the scheme of things - we're sure Microsoft would be happy to deliver products a "few weeks late." So, we await the release of SLED 10 in coming weeks. {moscomment} |
