Digg expands into wider world E-mail

User-driven technology news site Digg is set to expand its horizons into the wider world beyond technology. From next week, the site which enables users to vote on which stories to run and which to put on the front page, will cover topics in more diverse categories such as business, politics and entertainment, and will also include videos.

The new version of the site will also enable users to personalise the site to their own tastes, including or hiding categories at their whim.

The system of allowing users to determine which stories appear on the page of a news site was pioneered by Digg and Slashdot, which have been conducting a ratings war in past months. However, the recent revival of the Netscape brand by AOL in the shape of a news site, which is a hybrid between user and editorial driven content, has thrown a new competitor into the ring. {moscomment}
