BT has won a five-year contract to provide an international MPLS-based WAN for over 40 sites in 20 countries, including Australia for Software AG, Germany's second largest software company.
BT, in conjunction with its subsidiary BT Infonet. will also operate existing PABX systems in 16 countries, fixed voice services in Germany and mobile voice and data communication via mobile phone and Blackberry in Germany. There are plans to extend the arrangement to other countries.

BT claims that, having a single contract covering voice, data and mobile communication, Software AG will save around 25 percent of its communication costs.

BT claims to have beaten 12 rivals in an international tender process. "BT convinced us of both the technical and commercial advantages of a general contractorship for the required services," said Dirk Ventur, CIO of Software AG.
