VoIP provider engin has announced details of its collaboration with Intel and Australian PC manufacturer, Optima, to enable an analogue phone to be plugged into a PC and used to make engin VoIP calls over the PC's broadband connection. The planned offering was reported in iTWire early last month. Key to the facility is the new Intel 600SM PCI phone adapter, a plug in PC card which contains an analogue phone adaptor and which works with the engin softphone. It will be offered on selected Optima models from late June. The 600SM was foreshadowed in a report on a US website, dated 17 April. It said that the 600SM, code-name Slick Mountain, would come with diallers for the major VoIP players. "Intel is currently working out agreements with many VoIP service providers including CounterPath, Skype, Vonage, Packet 8 and DeltaThree." |
