Mike van Niekerk gets top editorial role at Fairfax Digital

! News publisher John Fairfax Holdings has promoted Mike van Niekerk to the new senior role of online editor-in-chief. According to Fairfax, the online editor-in-chief role is a recognition that the digital business has expanded beyond the realms of the two metropolitan mastheads – smh.com.au and theage.com.au. Previously the managing editor of smh.com.au and theage.com.au, van Niekerk will be responsible for the overall product strategy across all Fairfax’s online editorial products. van Niekerk started at The Age as an IT journalist in 1994 after moving to Melbourne from Perth, where he worked at the West Australian.
