Japanese mobile phone operator NTT DoCoMo has unveiled its fastest phone to date. The model N902iX can download data at speeds of up to 3.6Mbps which rivals fixed line broadband and is 10 times faster than current 3G.

The new mobile phone is Japan's first HSDPA-compatible handset. HSDPA is a new high-speed packet-transmission technology for downlinks at up to 3.6Mbps, which is fast enough to download music and video files. The phones will also be equipped with Microsoft's Windows Media Player.

An HSDPA  service able to take advantage of the new mobile phone's high-speed capabilities is expected to be available in Japan by June.{moscomment}
