The Information Technology index, from the monthly Executive Demand Index, produced by executive search firm E.L Consult, showed that 2006 is seeing steadily climbing demand in the IT industry, compared to the previous year, where demand see-sawed from month to month. "The demand for new systems and technology implementation that we predicted to boost demand in 2006 has come to pass, with improved database management, cost tracking, accounting and marketing software leading the way," the E.L Consult report stated. Gains in Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia and the ACT were more than enough to overtake the losses in New South Wales and Tasmania. In contrast to recent results, print-based advertising was far more popular to prospective employers than web-based approaches. Based on past experience, this would seem to indicate that senior positions are currently on offer in this industry.
