For months the world has moaned that the Sony PlayStation 3 would not be released to the world until November at a price of around $500. Now when the official announcement is made everybody is acting surprised. Yet the machine will probably be the best value for money on the planet. Everybody is bitching and moaning that the console is too expensive starting at $499 for the 20GB version to $599 for the 60GB model. Everybody is complaining that the PS3 is $100 more than the Xbox 360. Yet, with a new Cell processor and Blu-ray disc drive on board, the PS3 console probably costs Sony $900 to make, according to some analysts.So basically the company is prepared to give customers their machine at 50% of cost.Even if you never played a single game on the PS3, the Blu-ray disc drive alone would be worth paying $499 for, although you will probably have to pay an extra $100 for the model with the high definition video connector to take advantage of the Blu-ray capabilities. Admittedly, that doesn't quite make sense. Why bother to put in a Blu-ray drive on the model without a high definition video connector? Perhaps Sony is keeping something from us. But if you are a gamer, don't pretend that the PS3 will not offer a superb gaming experience with a wide choice of games. There's a reason that PS3 will cost more than Xbox 360 - it's worth more.{moscomment}
