VoIP service provider, engin, has teamed up with Australian PC manufacturer, Optima Australia to enable a standard analogue phone to be plugged into an Optima PC and used to make VoIP calls over the PC's broadband connection.
An engin spokesman told iTWire that the functionality was provided by a new chipset incorporated into the PCs. He declined to name the manufacturer but predicted that this functionality would soon become standard on all PCs because of the very low cost of incorporating the chipset into new PCs.

The option will available on selected models of Optima's desktop PC products from late June.

At the CeBIT show in Sydney's Darling Harbour Convention Centre, engin also previewed a new Windows based softphone from iBeam which incorporated a videophone option and 'presence' features.
