Skype, which last month teamed up with online dating service Lavalife to offer singles an online chat service, has now launched a group chat service in which up to 100 people can participate under control of a moderator.

According to reports the new service, Skypecast, will be supported by the latest release of the Skype client software  (version 2.5 for Windows is believed to be due for release today 3 May).

Reuters reported that the service would  allow the designated host to control the group interaction by deciding which members would be able to speak and when, and by ejecting participants. Skype already supports group conferencing, but only for up to  four participants.
