Microsoft has made available for download the first release candidate for its new Windows command line interface for systems administrators, previously named Monad, now called Windows Powershell. A command line in Windows has previously be unavailable to systems administrators, who like the mere PC user mortals had to use a graphical user interface to perform tasks such as storage backups and performance monitoring. The problem is that a GUI isn't flexible or powerful enough for many administrators. Microsoft also has plans to sell Powershell on its potential Unix migration capabilities.
