The Australian Communications Industry Forum (ACIF) has published a VoIP security fact sheet - designed to alert VoIP and Internet service providers about security issues - and a basic guide to VoIP technical terms and issues. ACIF says they were developed in response to a growing need within the telecommunications industry for information about VoIP developments and the impacts of next generation networks (NGN). The VoIP Security Fact Sheet "highlights some of the ways VoIP calls, networks and systems can be vulnerable to malicious or criminal attack...[offering] advice to providers about the need to safeguard their own infrastructure and suggests that they also educate their customers on the need to take precautions." The "Basic Guide to VoIP Technical Terms and Issues" was created "to help VoIP providers supply information to their prospective customers." It aims to achieve consistency used across the industry in the use of basic terms. Both documents are available from the ACIF website at www.acif.org.au/projects/voip. |
