Cisco subsidiary Linksys has introduced into Australia two new power over ethernet (PoE) WiFi access points for small business environments, one for outdoor and one for indoor installation. PoE is only available when they are connected to a switch or router supporting the IEEE802.3a PoE standard. Both units support Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) and the more robust wireless security of Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA). WPA2 support will be available via a firmware download on the Linksys website by the end of Q1. Both units are available now through resellers. Estimated street pricing is $469.95 for the indoor unit and $1079.95 for the outdoor. These prices are significantly higher than US prices of $A338 and $A609 at current exchange rates. |
