A former company secretary and general counsel of Alcatel Australia, Charles Matthews has been appointed chief compliance officer of Alcatel globally, reporting to chairman and CEO, Serge Tchuruk. In this newly created position he will oversee regulatory compliance according to international laws and standards, corporate governance and business practices worldwide for the Group. He will be a member of the Ethics Committee. Alcatel said the new position was ' part of Alcatel's commitment to the highest standards of best practice." Matthews joined Alcatel Australia 1986 as secretary and general counsel and since then held various legal positions in Alcatel's headquarters, submarine and optics activities. From 2001 to 2003, he was Alcatel's chief country officer in the UK and Ireland. He is a qualified lawyer called to the bar in England & Australia. |
