The $A229 Navigon 1400 provides a bunch of features to help drivers, including photorealistic 3D views with lane guidance for many highway exits, spoken directions and street names, speed camera alerts, and parking locations. But Navigon has also realised drivers are also pedestrians. Pedestrian mode includes energy-saving features to prolong battery life, provision for leaving the route without automatic recalculation (the plotted and actual routes are shown in different colours), and automatic routing to the final destination (and back to the car) after parking. The talking point for the $A499 Navigon 6300 is voice recognition for entries and commands. It also receives SUNA live traffic information and directs the driver around serious holdups. The 6300 also provides photorealistic 3D views enhanced with height data and landmarks, and augments lane guidance with advance indication of the required lane. Like the 1400, it provides spoken directions and street names.  "With the new Navigon 6300 we are raising the bar for navigation devices in Australia," said Gerhard Mayr, Navigon's vice president worldwide mobile phones and new markets. "Our new voice command feature is so precise that commands can even be phrased informally and not just by stating and activating special destinations," he added. The 6300 includes Bluetooth hands-free capabilities and a 4.3in touchscreen. Both models include the MyRoutes feature which learns from the user's driving habits in order to provide an optimal route recommendation, according to Navigon officials, and both come with an 80% discount on the FreshMaps service for updated maps for two years (normally $A99). |
