Verizon introduces prepaid mobile broadband plans E-mail

Wireless provider Verizon has added three pay-as-you-go data plans to its Mobile Offerings. The plans will be sold with a USB wireless modem.

The new plans come in daily, weekly, or monthly versions and are intended for people who need broadband access for short periods, such as during vacations.

The daily plan costs US$15 for 75 MB of usage -- enough, Verizon claims, to access more than 25,000 e-mails, 500 Web pages, or 150 low-res digital photos.

The weekly plan costs $30 for 250 MB, and the monthly plan costs $50 for 500 MB.

The plans are bundled with the Verizon Wireless USB760 modem. Sold for $170 with no plan or $50 with a contract, the modem will cost $130 with one of the new prepaid plans.

Verizon's standard contract-based plans cost $60/month for 5 GB of usage or $40/month for 250 MB.

The plans will be available at Verizon stores as of November 15 and other retailers on November 20.
