Sydney-based online merchant solutions vendor, On Technology, is claiming a worldwide first with its implementation of PayPal’s new Permissions Application Programming Interface (API), the latest beta API unveiled today as part of the PayPal X global open payments platform.

On Technology managing director, Joachim Schiller, said today that “prior to implementing the Permissions API, our instructions for clients to enable PayPal as a payment option were quite detailed,” but he said, “this has now been reduced to a single, self-explanatory button.”

Schiller said the new Permissions API allows developers to solicit permission from customers to access their PayPal account on their behalf.

“On Technology integrated the new API within its award-winning ezimerchant e-commerce solution, which already uses PayPal to deliver payment processing, as part of a limited beta program. As a result, On Technology has been able to further streamline the set-up process for new merchant customers that select PayPal as an online payment option.”

And, according to Spiro Rokos, senior manager, developer network at PayPal Australia, “On Technology is a great example of how Aussie developers can take advantage of the PayPal X APIs to enhance their existing e-commerce solutions, and make payments a more seamless experience for their customers.”

Developers attending PayPal Innovate 2009 in San Francisco this week will be given exclusive access to the Permissions API until the end of the year, while non-attendees, including developers from Australia, will have access from the first quarter of 2010.
