Peek introduces mobile Twitter device E-mail

Mobile e-mail and texting vendor Peek has added a Twitter client to its lineup of portable devices. Only available in the U.S., the TwitterPeek offers lifetime service for $US200 (including device), or a device for $100 plus a monthly service fee.

Peek already offers two mobile text-oriented devices , the original Peek Classic and the Peek Pronto. Both look something like flatter, wider BlackBerrys, with a QWERTY keyboard underneath a color screen.

The idea is to enable mobile e-mail and texting without needing a full smartphone. The Peek Classic costs US$20 and supports standard e-mail, including JPEG attachments; the Pronto costs $60 and adds push e-mail, unlimited texting, and PDF and Microsoft Word attachments. Both require a $15/month service fee.

Both devices can already access Twitter via Ping.fm and a proprietary app. But now the company has introduced another Peek, this one for Twitter only.

The TwitterPeek lets owners read and send tweets, retweet, direct message, and otherwise participate in Twitter wherever they are.

The TwitterPeek, like the other two, uses the cell phone system, not WiFi, and only works in the U.S. It is sold through the twitterpeek.com or Amazon.

The cost is $200 for a TwitterPeek with lifetime service, or $100 for a device with six months of service; after that, the service will cost $8/month.
