NetIQ partners with Netezza Corporation to extend change and activity monitoring E-mail
Wednesday, 04 November 2009
NetIQ Corporation today announced NetIQ Change Guardian for Databases, as part of a strategic OEM relationship with Netezza Corporation to license its Mantra Database Activity Monitoring appliance.

This new solution sees NetIQ enter the Database Activity Monitoring market, offering an integrated approach to security information and event management (SIEM) to protect enterprise “crown jewels” and assist with compliance mandates such as Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS).

Prat Moghe, general manager, data compliance, Netezza Corporation, commented that, “Understanding how change and privilege user activity impact business-critical databases is essential to meeting the ongoing demands of industry and regulatory mandates. Combining Mantra technology and its industry-leading performance and scalability with NetIQ’s SIEM solution provides enterprises with comprehensive change and activity monitoring that can best meet their increasing security and compliance demands.”

This latest addition to the NetIQ Change Guardian family delivers real-time activity and change monitoring across relational databases, without significantly impacting database performance or operation. It also audits access to databases and identifies potentially suspicious behavior, enabling faster, more comprehensive automated responses.

David Bell, senior solutions specialist, NetIQ, said, “The security of corporate data has fast become a critical element in the strategic planning behind every enterprise. Organisations need a reliable means of defending the sensitive data housed within central databases by detecting abnormal behavior before it results in significant breaches, negative publicity and costly fines. This partnership with Netezza further strengthens NetIQ Change Guardian for Databases, providing a natural complement and extension to the security and event correlation that customers rely upon to identify threats and minimise their impact.”

NetIQ Change Guardian for Databases:
- Monitors and alerts on suspicious activity undertaken by privileged users.
- Alerts on changes made to the database, providing protection from insiders who may purposefully weaken security or inadvertently damage a business-critical database.
- Auto-recognises sensitive information, ensuring that critical data is identified and properly protected.
- Presents information to NetIQ Security Manager and other SIEM solutions to correlate all events that impact data security.
