A utility that provides easy access to Mac-based media libraries has been updated for compatibility with Snow Leopard.

Karelia Software's free iMedia Browser provides practically any Mac application with a media browser like that used in Apple's own software.

Apple' media browser and the iMedia Browser both provide a way of looking inside the libraries associated with standard applications such as iTunes, iMovie and iPhoto, as well as items stored by third-party software including Lightroom and Camino.

iMedia Browser has now been updated to version 1.2.1, providing full compatibility with Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard.

According to Karelia president Dan Wood, changes made in Snow Leopard caused a number of issues with iMedia Browser, especially with the 'back of the window' display of licensing information and display settings.

Version 1.2.1 also delivers improved stability, enhanced parsing of Aperture libraries, cosmetic changes to reflect iTunes 9, and new localisations for Brazilian Portuguese and Russian.

The iMedia Browser framework is available to other developers under a BSD-style licence, and has been used in applications such as Skitch and FotoMagico.
