Telstra unveils nowwearetalking's successor: Telstra Exchange E-mail

Telstra has unveiled a new blog site, Telstra Exchange, to replace its controversial Nowwearetalking web site, scrapped some months ago.

In his introductory video post on the new site, CEO David Thodey describes it as "an innovative new website where all Australians can exchange views about communications and technology...But it's more than that. It's a symbol, too, of our new approach to communications here at Telstra."

(Exchange is the name I chose for my weekly telecoms newsletter over 20 years, now ExchangeDaily and published by iTWire . It remains an independent publication and has no connection with Telstra Exchange - they obviously thought it was a good name! - Stuart Corner)

Telstra also appears to be trying to use the site for some market research. Thodey describes it as "a listening post" saying: "We can do better by knowing what you want [but] first, we need to listen... It's a place for you to tell us how you feel, especially about innovation and technology. Which products and services make the biggest difference to your life? How can communications be used to make Australia a better place? What new products or services would you like to make your life simpler and easier?

"These are some of the issues we'll cover here in the coming months. And your comments will help us plan for the future, and make decisions, that improve the types of products and services we offer all Australians."

The role of the site as a forum for discussion and for input from sources outside Telstra is heavily stressed. The 'about' section describes it as "The online opportunity for everyone to exchange opinions and ideas about telecommunications, technology and innovation. It's a place to trade ideas about the development, design and delivery of communications technology, and about the impact of telecommunications on Australia."
