Scaling mountain and rooftops alike, Altair was tasked with removing a number of significant military and religious figures all within the excellent game mechanic of stimulated ancestral memory. Instead of directly playing Altair, the premise of Assassin’s Creed was the time travelling experiences unlocked by the Annimus machine, capable of visualising a patient’s ancestral experience. In this way, bartender Desmond Miles (the player) can relive his ancient forebear’s high-life. This mechanic also enables developer Ubisoft Montreal to move the series to just about any historical time and space they wish. For the sequel, this means heading off to Italy and showing off some high definition renaissance architecture, fashion and methods of killing. So, come this November 19th or November 20th, depending where you are in the world, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 owners will be scaling the heights of Florence, Rome and Venice amongst others, in Assassin's Creed II . News just to hand however, unfortunately PC owners will be clearing their mouse and keyboard cobwebs sometime in the first quarter of 2010. This is reminiscent of the release of the original game, where consoles received versions of the sneaky Altair’s adventures in November 2007, whilst the PC playing brigade waited until the following years April before being unleashed in the medieval Middle East. |
