iiNet expands regional DSLAM network

iiNet is to expand its DSLAM network with installations in Campbelltown, Coffs Harbour and Wollongong in NSW, Mooloolaba, Caloundra and Toowoomba in Queensland, Geelong in Victoria and Bunbury in West Australia. Featured Whitepaper 5 Best Practices for Smartphone Support It expects all installations to be completed by June 2010, and says the expansion has been made possible through new competitive backhaul service provided by Optus. The new DSLAMs will take iiNet's installed DLSAM count to more than 330. CEO, Michael Malone, said: “The key issue for us, particularly in regional Australia, has always been the availability of competitive backhaul. Where that exists, we are always open to investing to add to our network so more Australians can have the option of choosing faster, more affordable broadband.” He added that the Federal Government’s Regional Backbone Blackspots Programme should open more regional locations for iiNet to invest.
