The Apprentice is a popular business-oriented reality show where potential high flyers are let loose into genuine commercial organisations. Monday night’s episode of The Apprentice Australia will feature a Windows-related challenge by Microsoft.

The original remains best with Trump having overseen eight seasons with a ninth confirmed for 2010. A spinoff featuring Martha Stewart was less successful, lasting only one season but the show has enjoyed success in the United Kingdom where Sir Alan Sugar, founder of Amstrad, plays Britain’s “most belligerent boss.” Australian fans of the show – myself included – long hoped for an Australian variant, with the late Kerry Packer being originally the most likely preference as boss. Finally, this year the channel Nine network announced they had acquired rights to the franchise and would be starring Mark Bouris, founder and chairman of Wizard Home Loans. In usual reality show formula, candidates are eliminated each episode with the eventual winner receiving an employment contract worth $200,000 at one of Bouris’ companies. Episode six, airing on channel nine Monday 2nd November at 9:30pm, will feature Microsoft Australia as the client who Bouris’ apprentice hopefuls will be seeking to please. Microsoft Australia is tight-lipped on the nature of the challenge but gave a clue by advising that Jeff Putt, local Windows Consumer Lead, has a speaking role. A competition related to Windows 7 will be announced at the end of the show. This isn’t Microsoft’s first association with the franchise. A Microsoft employee was a candidate in the third season of the US show, although unfortunately dropped out of the challenge after finding it too stressful. More notably, season four featured Trump’s apprentice candidates producing their own advertisements for Microsoft Office Live Meeting. |
