UK geospatial data management vendor, 1Spatial, has signed a “landmark” agreement with Australian Government-owned public company, PSMA, that will establish a dedicated 1Spatial office in Australia and provide local access to technical expertise in 1Spatial products.

The agreement will see the establishment of a 1Spatial office, co-located with PSMA Australia in Canberra, and according to Duncan Guthrie, group sales director of 1Spatial, while the arrangement with PSMA will have “direct and significant benefits for PSMA Australia and the development of its LYNX data management infrastructure,” he says it will also provide “benefits to the broader geospatial community in the form of local support for 1Spatial’s leading and innovative solutions.”

PSMA Australia tasked by the government with developing national spatial datasets, and since 2001, it has been working closely with the state and territory governments and the Commonwealth Government to make high quality, national spatial data available to the public and private sectors.

According to PSMA’s, CEO, Dan Paull this has required “significant supply chain relationship management and sophisticated technology, both of which are core competencies of PSMA Australia.”

Duncan Guthrie said 1Spatial has been keen to establish a presence within Australia to provide local support for its “rapidly growing customer base and partner channel and this agreement with PSMA Australia enables this to occur.”

According to Guthrie, the agreement is significant for a number of existing 1Spatial customers in Australia.

“Australia is once again a growing force within the global geospatial community and we have been eager to establish a presence here to support our customers, partners and innovations in geospatial data management, such as PSMA Australia’s LYNX programme.

“The agreement we have signed with PSMA Australia will allow both companies to develop their products, and explore how they can be applied to the benefit of the wider geospatial community in Australia.”

PSMA’s Dan Paull claimed the company is already “revolutionising geospatial data management within Australia through the use of the 1Spatial data integration environment, Radius Studio and is excited at the prospect of the agreement.”

“We have worked closely with 1Spatial in the past, through the adoption of their Radius Studio platform.  Now, we look forward to further collaborating with this energetic company to enhance our national datasets,” said Dan Paull, Chief Executive Officer of PSMA Australia.

Paull said he believes the Australian geospatial community will greatly benefit from the establishment of a strong 1Spatial presence in Australia, and that “1Spatial has developed a powerful toolset that I believe will play a vital role in the way geospatial data will be managed into the future. But the introduction of new technology is as much cultural as technical and this change requires the building of confidence. This can only be done with a 1Spatial presence here in the country. The availability of technical expertise and support will assist current and future 1Spatial customers, including government mapping agencies, embrace the benefits of the technology with confidence.”
