Gather the gang together, it is time for some old-school meets new-school Mario fun on the Wii. New Super Mario Bros. Wii has its November release date locked in.

You can read some hands on impressions of New Super Mario Bros. Wii here, but for the rest of us the news of a release date locked in for the game is a time to start organising multiplayer Wii parties.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii – a franchise rapidly running out of superlative for its titles – will bound onto Wii consoles from November 12th (in Australia,, November 15th in the US).

Side scrolling old-school gaming, but utilising multiplayer for up to four and making some new use of the motion detecting options of the Wii-mote, Mario Bros is freshening up the game-play for a modern audience.

This is going to be the game you will want four players in front of the TV for.  Players can jump in at any time, and the game can shift from the obvious cooperation angle to one of devious foiling of your fellow Mushroom Kingdom inhabitants in a blink.

Then there are the propeller and penguin suits as well as the very accessible feature of Super Guide.

Super Guide enables players that are having trouble with a tough course:  lose a life enough times in a row, and the Super Guide icon will appear in the course. Once activated, Mario’s brother Luigi will take control of the game and show players a safe route through the course as he heads for the goal.

Nintendo believes that they have managed to balance new-gamer experience with a challenge that Mario veterans will likewise enjoy.  We will all find out mid November.
