Communications Alliance has announced further progress in its work to develop an architecture model for the National Broadband Network.

The organisation has established seven project teams, some of which have been operating for several weeks and has already released a discussion paper setting out a draft of its vision of the NBN network architecture. This week the final two of the seven teams – Operational and End User Migration – will hold their first meetings.

According to Comms Alliance, "The Operational team will propose approaches to enable the best possible customer experience in provisioning, assurance and billing. The team will need to consider the activities or actions required and the IT transactions needed to support these actions. The IT transactions are expected to be specify the structure and content of the transactions. One key objective is to empower those that are buying wholesale NBN access, so that the NBN infrastructure can function as close as possible to an extension of their own networks from a provisioning and assurance perspective."

The End User Migration team will focus on which existing processes can be used and what new processes will need to be developed to enable end users to migrate to and from the NBN as well as between different service providers within the NBN.

According to Comms Alliance, "The output will focus on guidelines and specifications that describe the alternative options for managing end user migrations...To provide a world class customer experience, the migration or transfer of end users will require planning and co-ordination to be both efficient and effective (ie to avoid service disruptions)."
