5 Best Practices for Smartphone Support
Netgear arranged for The Tolly Group and AV-Test to test the anti-malware effectiveness of its ProSecure UTM10 against the Fortinet FortiGate-60B, SonicWall TZ 100, SonicWall TZ 210, and WatchGuard Firebox Edge X55e. The UTMs were tested for their ability to block the WildList Organisation's list of malware (released in August 2009) as well as a collection of 60,000 other malware samples collected by AV-Test ('zoo malware'). Web (HTTP) and email (POP3 and SMTP) traffic containing the various pieces of malware was run through each of the UTMs. The ProSecure product blocked 90% of zoo malware, regardless of protocol. The TZ 210 took second place (63% via HTTP and 70% via the email protocols), followed by its sibling (35% HTTP, 49% email). The Fortigate blocked 29% of samples regardless of protocol, while the WatchGuard X55e stopped a mere 21% via HTTP and 19% via email. As for the WildList, the UTM10 was the only product tested to block 100% of samples. The TZ 210 and TZ 100 managed 90% qnd 87% respectively, the FortiGate stopped 81%, and again the Firebox trailed on 31%. All products were tested in their default configuration with the most recent updates available on the day of testing. Tolly's report can be found here (registration required). Please read on for Netgear's comments, along with news of another successful third-party test for Netgear's ProSafe line. |
