Netregistry's parent company, Online Growth Solutions  (OGS) has acquired a controlling interest in domain name registrar, TPP Internet, by buying out one of TPP’s founding partners.

OGS and Netregistry CEO, Larry Bloch, told iTWire today that the acquisition gives the OGS group the lead in marketshare in the .au  domain sector, which he claimed overtakes Melbourne IT.

“The purchase has increased the group’s lead in market share of the .au domain sector under control to over 31 percent,” Bloch claimed, and  which he said “cements the company’s number one position in the Australian domain name market.”

According to Bloch the .au domain market consists of around 1.2 million registered names and OGS’ share of the market represents only around one-third of its business as the company continues to diversify.

“In under 7 years we have overtaken Melbourne IT’s previously thought unassailable monopoly,” Bloch claimed, aadding that “we are 10% points clear of our nearest competitor and 20% ahead of the number 3 player.”

In the TPP deal, OGS has taken a controlling interest in the company by buying out the shareholding of TPP founder, Peter Shilling.

Bloch said the TPP deal is the latest in a string of transactions that saw MD Web Hosting join the OGS Group in August.
