Indian IT outsourcer, Satyam, has had more than its share of corporate scandals and all sorts of problems over the past year, but in Australia, at least, it’s getting on with building its business, with the appointment of a new man to head up business development just five months after installing a new country manager for Australia and New Zealand.

Mahindra Satyam's country manager for ANZ, Venki Prathivadi, today announced the appointment of Bobby Gupta as head of sales and new business development for Australia and New Zealand, to lead the company’s sales and new business team, and to be responsible for other “key initiatives in the Asia Pacific that will be announced over the coming months.”

As iTWire reported in February this year, fresh from the worst corporate scandal to hit post tech miracle India, Satyam Computer Services appointed the company's HR boss, Mr A.S. Murty, as CEO, following the dismissal and subsequent arrest of Satyam CEO and co-founder Ramalinga Raju and his brother B. Rama Raju on charges of corporate fraud.

Prathivadi said Gupta has more than 18 years of experience in the IT industry in leading, managing and selling middleware / infrastructure solutions, application software (ERP & CRM Solutions), strategic outsourcing (SO), application management, business transformation (BTO), large and complex system integration projects & professional services.

Prior to joining Mahindra Satyam, Gupta has primarily worked for IBM in the company’s software group and global business services and most recently with IBM’s global technology services where he was running the telecom expenses management practice as AP sales leader.

Prathivadi said Gupta is “a great addition to our team as we continue to increase our focus on emerging technologies and verticals to drive the business in the ANZ regions. He will help us to further strengthen our capabilities in verticals such as banking, retail, utilities, public services (including Government) and healthcare, pharma and life sciences.”

Gupta is a graduate in electronics engineering and an MBA from the Queensland University of Technology (QUT).
