Talent Grid, a cloud based recruitment and talent management network, launched in Sydney this morning, plans to open its doors to international job candidates by the end of the year, allowing them to load up their details to be searched by would-be employers and recruiters.

Developed by Taleo, the system is based on its unified talent management software systems which are already being used by more than 4,000 customers in 190 countries. Details of 175 million job candidates are already stored on the system, a figure which the company claims is growing by 5 million each month.

By the end of the year the Talent Grid will open to allow job seekers to load up a universal profile – essentially a CV – which would-be employers could then peruse.

Qantas is being tipped as a likely early adopter of the service in Australia by Guy Gauvin, executive vice president of global services who was in Australia to launch the Talent Grid.

Gauvin told iTWire that he was “99.9% certain” that Qantas would be a user of the Grid. The national carrier has been using Taleo’s professional recruitment tools and has saved $5.3 million from its recruitment and HR budget in the last 12 months according to Gauvin.

Three different services are provided on the Talent Grid – a knowledge exchange, a solution exchange and a talent exchange. Taleo describes the knowledge exchange as being like a combination of Facebook and Wikipedia for recruiters, where information about candidates and the recruitment process can be accessed and shared.

The talent exchange is conceptually similar to eBay, although instead of selling pre-loved sofas, users can try to offload candidates they cannot place. Sharing candidate data earns a user credits, which can then be spent to access candidate details held by other users.
