Google Docs gains shared folders E-mail

The "most requested" feature for Google Docs has arrived: shared folders.

Since its debut, Google Docs has provided a convenient mechanism for sharing documents among a group of users, especially when they are geographically separated.

But if you needed to share multiple documents with the same group of people, the interface was (shall we say) clumsy.

A much simpler idea is to share a folder with the group, giving them access to all the documents it contains.

And that's exactly what Google has delivered. According to company officials, this feature was the most requested by users.

As promised mid-year, a Google Docs folder can now be shared with one or more other users, each of which gains access to the entire contents of the folder.

An associated change makes it possible to upload more than one file at a time to Google Docs. The "Select files to upload" dialog permits the selection of multiple files using shift-click (range) or control-click (item).
