The Game Developers’ Association of Australia (GDAA) has announced the opening up of nominations for the annual GDAA Game Developers awards. Categories include Best Console and PC title as well as a new award for the burgeoning area of Downloadable titles.

Australia and New Zealand are home to an ever growing video-game development industry, and though times are tough, the sector continues to flourish.

To recognise outstanding local achievement in this area, the Game Developers’ Association of Australia is responsible for a set of annual awards, for which nominations are now open.

Last year, the awards were dominated by 'de Blob', developed out of Melbourne by Blue Tongue for the Nintendo Wii.  This year could see a closer race for the coveted awards.

The GDAA have dropped in the nomination info for iTWire readers:

The GDAA Game Developer Awards program is managed by the GDAA and will be presented at a Gala Awards night on Monday 7 December, as part of the Game Connect: Asia Pacific Conference and Trade Exhibition.

The GDAA is proud to announce that this year’s Awards Dinner will be hosted by Autodesk, which continues its longstanding association with the Australian game development community.

The 2009 Awards will include -for the first time - the category ‘Best Downloadable Title.’

The full list of categories is as follows:

* Best Game
* Best New Start-Up (Adam Lancman Award)
* Best Console Title
* Best PC Title
* Best Handheld Title
* Best Mobile Title
* Best Downloadable Title
* Best Gameplay
* Best Graphics

Only games developed in Australia and New Zealand that have been released between 1 November 2008 and 6 November 2009 are eligible to enter. Nominations close at 5pm on Friday 6 November.
