Marketed to consumers, the service offers automatic backup and unlimited storage space (though the company warns that customers' use may be affected by their ISPs' data transfer limits). It also encrypts the stored data and gives it the protection of "the world’s largest dedicated security company," according to the announcement. Since Mozy itself also offers unlimited storage for about the same price and advertises the security and encryption of stored data, the McAfee brand name would seem to be one of the new service's major selling points. The service is already available in the U.S. for a 30-day free trial; annual subscriptions are $59.99. By the end of the year, the service should be available in 27 more countries, including all of Europe, much of Asia, Canada, and Australia. So far, the service is Windows-only, requiring Windows 2000, XP, or Vista. |
