The partnership will see Sybase's mobile device management capabilities integrated with SEN's fixed mobile convergence (FMC) technology that will enable businesses "to vastly simplify the management of a hugely diversified communications infrastructure...[and] effectively manage operations such as inventory and expenses, logistics, mobile devices and applications." Specifically Sybase's Afaria will be fully embedded into the SEN HiPath MobileConnect V2.3, software that "seamlessly unifies fixed enterprise VoIP, VoWLAN and cellular mobility." Afaria is Sybase iAnywhere's mobile device management and security product designed to ensure that mobile data and devices are up-to-date, reliable, secure and encrypted. Features include over-the-air device provisioning, inventory and configuration, software deployment and updating, data backup and recovery, process automation and scripting, data backup, power-on password protection, data-on-device encryption, data fading and lockdown, mobile remote control, anti-virus and firewall, remote 'kill' and data wipe/. The combination wil consist of a MobileConnect Appliance and MobileConnect Client. The appliance will be located at the central site and sitting on the wired network between the WLAN and the SIP PBX. This will continuously monitor and manage mobile user sessions regardless of whether they are on the corporate or public network. The MobileConnect client software will reside on the dual-mode handset and will work with the MobileConnect Appliance to navigate enterprise-cellular exchange. Siemens Enterprise Communications is now only 50 percent owned by Siemens, the other 50 percent is held by Gores Group.
