IP phone service provider Jajah has introduced a Twitter-based telephone option. Now in beta, Jajah@call will let Jajah users with Twitter accounts make free phone calls to other Twitter subscribers.

To speak to another Jajah subscriber over Twitter, a Jajah user just needs to tweet "@call @username." The connection goes through without either party seeing the other's phone number.

Once the connection is made, the parties will be able to conduct a two-minute phone call.

"Telcos and mobile operators face huge challenges in a world where people check their tweets or their Facebook messages before they check voice mail," said Jajah CEO Trevor Healy in the announcement.

"Jajah@call showcases how easily we can bring telephony into the social media environment, where operators can now participate."

According to the release, the service will work from any Twitter client, from Twitter on a PC to TwitterBerry, Twitterfon, and Twidroid on smartphones.

Jajah@call is now in limited beta; eligible users will see "Twitter Calls" listed under the My Services heading on their My Account page. Others can e-mail This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it to request an invitation.

Ongoing information is available by following @call on Twitter.
