Precise colour on a flat panel display needn't cost a fortune. Dell's UltraSharp U2410 24in screen is aimed at professionals and enthusiasts who need superior colour.

Photographers and related professionals have been among the holdouts when it comes to CRT monitors. There have been some high-priced flatscreen displays for people that require high levels of colour accuracy but they have been relatively expensive (eg, HP's $A4779 DreamColor display).

Dell reckons its new 24in UltraSharp U2410 LCD monitor fills a gap for demanding users, yet the price starts at $A899.

"The Dell UltraSharp U2410 is ideal for desktop publishing firms, photography studios, design firms and animation studios," said Scott Bates, Dell SMB product manager.

"Computing enthusiasts and gamers will also appreciate the crisp and clear images and the six millisecond response time which ensures that fast-moving content is displayed with minimal distortion," he added.

Features include 1920 x 1200 resolution, support for industry-standard colour spaces, up to 1.07 billion colours, picture-in-picture, a colour-calibrated factory report, and tilt/swivel/pivot adjustment.

Interfaces include Display Port, DVI and VGA.

The U2410 is available immediately in most markets.
