Gaining competitive advantage and improving efficiency by using virtualisation and analytics as a key business tool is now the top priority for Australian and New Zealand CIOs, and 37 percent of them also see cloud computing as strategic and plan to implement it, even in the technology’s relatively early stages.

Of the 129 Australian and New Zealand chief information officers who responded to an IBM study of 2,500 CIOs worldwide, almost 98 percent cited virtualisation as the key tool to enhance their organisations competiveness, compared with 77 percent of all CIOs surveyed globally.

The IBM study also revealed that 94 percent of ANZ CIOs identified business intelligence and analytics as the next best way to enhance their organisations competitiveness, compared with 83 percent globally.

And, with an increased focus on virtualisation and data analytics, the study also revealed that data reliability and security have emerged as increasingly urgent concerns, with 83 percent of ANZ CIOs planning to make additional investments in risk management and compliance, compared with 72 percent globally.

The survey also found that already 39 percent of ANZ CIOs view cloud computing as strategic and plan to implement it, even in the technology’s relatively early stages, while Green IT is also viewed as a key strategic focus for 67 percent of the Australian, New Zealand respondents.
