250GB PS3 Slim to hit stores in October E-mail

Another story to file in the burgeoning Rumour file?  Reports are coming through of the existence of the mythical 250GB PS3 Slim, with some saying the device will be on retail shelves this October.

Late last month, and only briefly, a 250GB HDD (Hard Disc Drive) equipped Xbox 360 had a few online ads appear, only to taken down fairly swiftly.  But the fact they appeared in a number of places around the globe fuelled speculation of Microsoft attempting a storage based trump play against the new PS3 120GB Slim.

Here now is firming news that Sony may trump its own device by introducing a PlayStation 3 Slim console equipped with a 250GB hdd of its own.

According to Eurogamer Spain , the newly upgraded machine will arrive in October this year, only a mere month after the Slim’s launch.

The report states that the new console will be packaged with a copy of EA’s FIFA 10 as an exclusive bundle to the retailer GAME, and will clock in at a €350 price point.

So far the PS3 Slim (and most likely the price cut of the device) has been a huge success with GamesIndustry.biz reporting Chart-Track figures indicating a 1000 percent increase in PlayStation 3 sales over the week before.  Mind you, the week leading up to a new hardware/price point release ought to be a slow week.

Sony has apparently always been planning on selling both a 120GB as well as a 250GB SKU of the PS3 Slim, but one would imagine that despite having the relatively easy HDD swap-out-in process available to PS3 owners, there will be some who rushed out and grabbed a 120GB model who feel a little gypped at this news.
