Sarin, 54, was CEO of Vodafone from 2003 until July of 2008. Prior to that he led Accel-KKR Telecom; InfoSpace and AirTouch International all as CE. He is also a director of Safeway. He resigned from Vodafone in July 2008 after five years in the job and two years after surviving a boardroom revolt Institutional investors had voted against his re-election to the board, accusing him of being too quick to spend millions of pounds on foreign acquisitions, the Times said at the time. When he stepped down his strategy appeared to have been vindicated, with Vodafone reporting underlying profits of about £13 billion. Other notables on Cisco's board include Carol A Bartz, CEO of Yahoo!; Brian L Halla, chairman and CEO of National Semiconductor; John L Hennessy, president of Stanford University; Richard M Kovacevich, chairman of Wells Fargo; Roderick C McGeary, chairman of BearingPoint and Jerry Yang, co-founder and 'Chief Yahoo!' at Yahoo!
