A major update to popular Mac system monitoring utility iStat Menus also delivers Snow Leopard compatibility.

One of the software categories most affected by Mac OS X 10.6 compatibility issues is system monitoring tools that provide a visual representation of key statistics in the menu bar. Prime examples are MenuMeters and iStat Menus.

Version 2.0 of iStat Menus delivers a swag of new features, along with that all-important Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard goodness.

These include a wider choice of formats and icons, the ability to eject volumes and disks from the menu, and support for the latest Mac Pro models.

The enhanced calendar and world clock feature seems a little out of place, but it's no less useful for that.

If you're at all curious about what's going on inside your Mac, the question isn't whether you should install iStat Menus, merely how much of the menu bar you're prepared to devote to its many options.
