A major kerfuffle has blown up concerning the compatibility - or otherwise - of Adobe Creative Suite with Apple's new Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard operating system.Featured Whitepaper
5 Best Practices for Smartphone Support
The only issues uncovered by Adobe's testing concern Adobe Creative Suite Infrastructure (CSI) update v1.0.1 failing to update CSI extensions (only if CSI is installed after upgrading to 10.6), and Adobe Drive (which doesn't work with 64-bit Snow Leopard). What triggered the fuss was that Adobe stated that older versions of its creative software such as CS3 and Studio 8 have not been tested for Snow Leopard compatibility. "While older Adobe and Macromedia applications may install and run on Mac OS X Snow Leopard (v10.6), they were designed, tested, and released to the public several years before this new operating system became available. You may therefore experience a variety of installation, stability, and reliability issues for which there is no resolution. Older versions of our creative software will not be updated to support Mac OS X Snow Leopard (v10.6)," reads the FAQ. This was widely interpreted as meaning that the company was dropping support for CS3, and we saw mass outrage - something the blogosphere does very well. They should have kept reading, as the FAQ includes the statement that "Older versions of Adobe Creative Suite software were not designed to run on Mac OS X Snow Leopard (v10.6), so you may experience issues installing and using the software for which there are no solutions. Please note that support for Creative Suite 3 applications is currently available through Adobe's paid support program." What does a well-known Adobe insider have to say? See page 2. |
