Australian digital video technology developer, Mediaware, has been selected by Time Warner Cable to provide digital video editing and processing technologies for the entertainment giants Start Over service in the US. Start Over enables viewers to pause and re-wind live TV, as well as re-start programs already in progress as long as they tune in before the show finishes. They cannot however fast-forward through commercials. Unlike other similar services, the Start Over service does not require the purchase of additional hardware or software. Our technology is critical to the success of Start Over, said Mediaware CEO, Chris Newell. This is a service that has the potential to re-shape how people watch television. For an Australian technology company to be involved with such an important project and a company like Time Warner is very exciting. Video On Demand is a very important market for us. Winning this business with Time Warner will help us grow our revenue significantly in this space over the coming months and years. Time Warner launched Start Over on 1 November on a limited basis to a test market of 10,000 customers. The company intends to roll out the service to 137,000 customers in the coming months, then expand the service throughout the US next year. In addition to the partnership with Time Warner, Mediaware also supplies technology and systems to other US-based video-on-demand service providers, such as Tandberg Television, N2 Broadband, Gotuit Media, and IMake. |
