HP has opened a services centre in Christchurch, which it says is increasingly becoming New Zealand’s technology hub with a technology education sector and highly-skilled labour market.

According to HP, its new services centre - part of its applications services Best Shore delivery network - will help the company’s clients cost-effectively develop and manage their applications to achieve their business goals, while leveraging the benefit of global delivery and reducing associated risk.

HP’s, vice president, applications services – Asia Pacific and Japan, Eric Clark, said today the proximity and the experience of the new centre to Asia Pacific organisations will help “reduce the risk and cost of completely offshoring work as part of their business strategy.

“HP is a market leader in applications services and regional clients working with the Christchurch centre will benefit from similarities in time zones and language.”

HP says its Best Shore network focuses on providing the skills and expertise clients need from locations around the world, using consistent business and technical processes.

And, according to HP, Christchurch is increasingly becoming a technology hub with a quality technology education sector and highly-skilled labour market. With the new centre recruiting now, HP says it is expected to create a significant number of new jobs in Christchurch.

The Canterbury Development Corporation’s CEO, Bill Luff, says the corporation is wholly supportive of the HP initiative and is confident of numerous flow-on benefits for the local economy.
