ac3 gets new ISO certification for data centres E-mail

The Australian Centre for Advanced Computing and Communications – ac3 – has joined around 6,000 companies worldwide by being been awarded certification for information security under the internationally recognised ISO 27001 standard.

ac3  service delivery manager, Vincent Cleary, said today the company’s ISO certification would provide its clients with the assurance that their information "is hosted in data centres with secure environments and is supported with embedded management and control of information assets."

Cleary said ac3 - a private company jointly owned by the New South Wales Government and eight of the state’s universities - had achieved certification based around  the governance structure that the company had put in place to ensure the security of information assets hosted.

“This is the third auditable component of ac3’s security framework, complementing the existing areas of physical and logical security of the data centres and networks.

“Whilst the previous standard (7799) focussed on the mechanics of information security, the ISO 27001 standard focuses on the governance model to provide an environment where the management of information and assets are strictly controlled.

“This is achieved through focusing on policies and procedures that add value to the company’s performance in this area,” Cleary added.
